UK Procedures
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Is the generic term used to identify and mitigate an explosive ordnance risk. The first stage of Explosive Ordnance (EO), Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) or Unexploded Bomb (UXB) risk assessment is to conduct a site specific Desk Top Study. This will accurately determine the risk level and design an effective risk mitigation strategy. The mitigation strategy may make use of intrusive or non-intrusive explosive ordnance survey and detection. Followed by an explosive ordnance clearance which may involve the recovery, disposal or demilitarisation of the munitions.
One of the most common EOD contracts in the UK is pyrotechnic disposal, where time expired marine flares and other pyrotechnic markers and rockets must be safety collected and destroyed.
