Largest air dropped mine
MACC Engineers supporting marine dredging operations close to the mouth of the River Thames encountered one of the largest airdropped mines ever made. The 800kg German Air-Dropped Mine had become stuck in the Draghead of the Dredging Vessel “Congo River.”
In a marathon 14 hour operation, MACC Engineers assisted the Royal Navy EOD Team to remove the mine from the ship allowing the dredger to safely continue with its work. The mine was later destroyed on the seabed by a controlled explosion.
